Massin in Continuo: A Dictionary

  January 30 - March 9, 2003

The exhibit explores the work of self-taught French graphic designer Robert Massin and his groundbreaking career. An interpretive alphabet guides viewers through the depth and range of Massin's multiple roles as book designer, typographer, art director, author and photographer in celebration of his interest in alphabets as forms of organization.

The exhibition, which includes books, posters, photographs and ephemera on view for the first time in the U.S., was first shown at the Cooper Union Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography in New York.

Massin in Continuo is sponsored by: Cultural Services, The French Embassy, NYC and Gallimard Editions, Paris.

The presentation at UMBC is supported in part by an Arts Program grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency funded by the State of Maryland and the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Friends of the Library & Gallery.
